Example:Origins: Tycoon Donald Trump may espouse in his âWaiter Ruleâ that âhow you treat a waiter or a waitress reveals a lot about your characterâ so âdonât forget to leave a big tip,â but this December 2007 rumor about his having left a $10,000 tip on an $82 tab for a waiter at Santa Monicaâs Buffalo Club was pure fabrication.
As the Los Angeles Times described, the Trump Tip account was completely fictional, a hoax made up by the web site Derober.com and propagated by a number of other sites that failed to make any attempt to verify the story:

Everything about the story was false, such as the plausible-looking receipt showing the monster tip and Trumpâs signature, the existence of

Not quite. The story, it turns out, was fabricated, soup to nuts, by a 4-month-old snap-and-gab site called Derober.com. Derober is run by two brothers from Venice Beach â both professional photographers â and specializes in doing funny things with celebrity-related images.
Reached by phone, Deroberâs John Resig, 29, spilled the beans and laughingly marveled at the hoaxâs success. âHow many people get on the front page of Fox News with a story that doesnât contain one single ounce of truth?â he wondered in amazement.
Resig supplied screen shots of the Fox News home page, where the story had been displayed for hours with a photo and the headline âTrump Change.â A Foxnews.com representative did not deny that the story had been posted on the site for some time but noted that an update had also had been added noting that the original story was false.
Deroberâs Resig [said] not a soul had contacted him or his site to verify any of the evidence â let alone question it. âYou could drive a Mack truck through the holes in this story,â said Resig. âThere was no effort made at due diligence. Which wouldâve taken, by the way, like two minutes and a cellphone. Kaboo card game. Like, really.â

In this true, inspirational short story, a Pizza Hut waitress gets a 10,000 dollar tip from one of her regular customers. And the random act of kindness meant so much!
While waiting tables, friendly servers like Jessica often get to know the customers who come in regularly. That was certainly the case for Jessica Osborne, a waitress at Pizza Hut who received an unbelievable blessing.

And while regular customers often leave nice tips, no waitress would expect to get a 10,000 dollar tip. But thatâs just what a customer named Becky did for Jessica!
Becky dined at Pizza Hut about once a week. And when she did, she always requested to sit in Jessicaâs section.
âShe was sweet and bright and cheerful and never complained,â Becky explained. âShe was just a sweet waitress.â
In fact, Jessica Osborn even knew what kind of pizza Becky usually ordered â a Meatlovers pizza, half pepperoni, half black olives and mushrooms.
Overt time, Jessica shared more and more of her story with Becky and her family. The Pizza Hut waitress explained how she dreamed of becoming a photographer but had to drop out of college because she couldnât afford it.
Jessica had no idea, but Becky had received a large settlement after losing her husband and oldest child in a car accident. And this is how the waitress ends up getting a 10,000 dollar tip!
Inspiring Kindness From Grieving Family
Not long after Jessica opened up about her struggles, the mourning family returned to the restaurant.
Becky and her children had something special to give Jessica â a check to help with her dream of going to college. And as Jessica opened the envelope, she couldnât believe her eyes!
âWhen I opened it up, I just - I thought maybe I read too many zeros and I lost my breath,â she recalled.
Usually, if a waitress gets a 10,000 dollar tip, youâd expect it to come from some kind of millionaire. But this incredible act of kindness came from your average family, who wanted to use their personal tragedy to do something good for someone else.
